Soap is essential
Bar soap is the main cleaning agent in most European countries. In Poland it is used by approx. 80% of the population, in Europe – approx. 50%, in the world – approx. 60%.
What is soap?
Bar soap is a detergent, derived from natural ingredients, which is formed by saponification or neutralization. The starting material is fat or free fatty acids. Soaps are anionic surfactants.
Animal fats and / or oils, such as palm oil, palm kernel oil and coconut oil are used for the saponification process
Ingredients of the base are:
- non–nut oils – tallow or palm oil
- nut oils – refining components: palm kernel oil or coconut oil.
Fats, after reacting with sodium hydroxide, form soap, or sodium salts of higher fatty acids.
How does soap work?
Soaps action is related to their composition, which makes it easy to connect with particles of dirt on the surface of the skin, causing their removal. The process may also create insoluble calcium and magnesium soaps. They take the form of fine particles, and act like peeling, i.e. remove dead skin cells from the skin.
